JAZZY THEMES: A HISTORY OF AMERICAN EXPERIMENTATION WITH CLASSICAL MUSIC'S MOST POPULAR THEMES
6/27/2019 1:00pm (Central Time)

(11:00am PT, 12:00pm MT, 2:00pm ET)
Fee: $220.00

Offered by: Manhattan School of Music
Program Description:
How is Oscar Peterson like Claude Debussy? What did Jelly Roll Morton learn from Johann Sebastian Bach? Our teaching artists explore these very questions as they show you how some of history's greatest jazz musicians have been influenced by Classical masters. Though they seem worlds apart, many jazz tunes are based on concepts from the Classical world -- help our musicians identify themes, patterns, and rhythms from select pieces, both Classical and Jazz favorites. This is truly a presentation that crosses stylistic divides
